Unhappy Poor running 1989 200 XRi

The motor starts good, but when I give it gas to plane out it seems like it is low on torque. Once I'm on plane it takes a lot longer to reach even 5000 rpm. More often than not 5000 rpm is all it will twist. Every now and then once I hit 5000 and stay into it, it will work its way up to 6000 to 6200 rpm. This motor is on a 1977 Python 18' hull. It does have a CLE gear case, I'm running a 24 pitch chopper 3 blade prop. HELP!!!

The first thing I would do is check compression to verify you have 6 good holes.

All right, that will have to wait until Monday when I get back to work.
    Thanks.

I would also check the vac fuel pump on the side of block, my friends efi had similiar problems, $20.00 rebuild kit and ran fine.

Well, I checked compression and found 2 low holes. Hoping stuck rings but I never get that lucky! Thanks for the input.

If you're gonna hope may as well hope for a blown head gasket. That would be real lucky.
