ID:	258154 I am beginning to restore/restructure my old baja. i have the transom most of the way out. i plan to replace it and add some knees. i want to redo the floor as well. i have some questions however. is the tank placement in the front original? should i relocate it to the rear or leave it up front for bow weight? i could use the little storage that the closed bow provides. the boat ran great with the tank up front. i have no active trim capabilities so i'm concerned about planing off.

Those little bajas worth anything? Had a guy come in with one that needed a transom i had no idea what they are worth

...it is to me. it belonged to a friend's dad. we skied on it for many years. i figure if i do the work, it will cost a couple hundred bucks. glassing boats can't be much different than glassing surfboards. i'm not intimidated by it. when it's done, it will be good for many more years to come.

you need to move the tank to the transom. its a speed stability issue. it will cause a slower hole shot but using cavation holes in the prop will eliminate the effect.

the issue is the knees. no matter where they go there will be tank issues. do you need them yes, yes. either connect them to a rib or on a double floor[under the motor well].

when you say "speed stability", how fast are you talking. i have no intentions of running this thing 60+ mph. is it an issue at 35-45 mph? it has aluminum trim tabs, if it makes a difference (turnbuckle style).

I have a friend with a 115 on a similar baja. it runs 45 without any set up at all... IM guessing it will run in the 50's if you want it to.

i just restored a baja 79 18ss i took the tank out the bow and ran tanks in the stern for a week i then put a 17 gallon tank back in the bow i couldnt drive the boat with out the bow weight. I suggest putting the tank back up front exspecially if you want to pull a wake board or ski. i love my little baja super light boat i have a 200hp 2.5 merc with 10 inch setback it is a fun 70mph boat i run a 27p 4 blade you may have seen my old posting on here it is gone now for some reason but it was the baja that was camo painted when i finished itClick image for larger version.

i'm gonna try a set of jump seats (back-to-back so my ski spotter is facing the rear) with 2 six gallon tanks in the rear first. this will put some more weight forward. it did not have a bow tank from the factory. if i dont like it i will reinstall the original interior with a bow tank or trim tabs.

the transom has been heavily glassed. the seat frames are still in the mock-up stage. they will be sealed, faired, and glassed but removable. i may prefer the original interior layout but i had the loungers laying around so i figured i'd try them.
