    21 SUPERBOAT Mercury or Evinrude

This site is very benefical and Im appreciate all the feedback. Im new to GO FAST boats. I run old Whalers and want to step it up. I want to learn from everyone elses mistakes and learn from your good experiences. I just picked up a 1982 21 Superboat with no power. Its rigged for and an Evinrude. If I have to re rig the boat then thats what I'll have to do. The Evinrude I was looking at was a 1996 Evinrude Vindicator. The cost was 3,000 for the rebuild. Some are telling me thats a lot of money for the rebuild and I should wait and get some more cash for another motor. At this point Im not gonna rush dropping the boat in because summer is here. So I will take my time and do it right. FEED BACK FEED BACK FEED BACK. I want a 250. So fire away with your opinions. I dont want to start working motors and gearing. I just want a fun fast reliable motor. Thanks for all your help.

You can port the vindicator to 250 spec very easily. The only difference is the exhaust port is wider and a bit taller. They are strong motors but 3k for a rebuild is a bit steep.

A 250 EFI merc is another good motor, they are thirsty but theres a bunch of good easy mods to wake them up.

I believe he still is a MERC fan. He just has some good friends that help him work on Yamaha's. We will see what he is running this year soon enough.

All depends on what you have to spend the evinrude etec 250 h.o would be an animal on the boat at the same time getting very good gas milage it should put you around 90 with right setup theirs one on long island on the same boat which is very fast!
