propin around 16 Baja 115 HO
I had a week at the cottage and mostly it was too windy for any speed runs and frequently too windy to even get a boat wet.
I do have some rough numbers for the new motor on the old Baja. It has a GPS speedo but I can't see the mph notches near 60 when I'm driving. I can see the needle on either side of the '60'
There was only a short calm straight so perhaps I could have nudged the trim up and got a mph or two in calmer water. It's a wild drive over trimmed at 60.
24 Raker 59-60
23 SRX 59-60
27 Ron Hill Hoss Copy 61-62 at only 5300 rpm
26 small ear chopper 61-62 at perhaps 5700
The Hoss copy was impressive. Rolled onto a plane with minimal slip and mostly ran like a normal prop. The small ear bounced off the limiter coming onto a plane. At such low rpm am I lugging the motor? It didn't make any vibration or noise in protest.
I might try raising the motor later in the summer. Mostly I'm going to put a ski prop on it and ski.
So far I'm very impressed with the motor. Great fuel economy. It pulls my 200 lb brother out on a slalom ski with two feet in the bindings. Mission accomplished.

Yes you are definately stressing (lugging) the motor at 5300. The ideal OPTIMUM RPM's RPM's are 5500 to 5750. Now that is NO LESS than 5500 rpm and up to 5750.
If you want to ski using the prop you select above then 5700rpm or a little more is DEFINATELY the way to go.

Thanks for the link and the advice. I thought 5300 was too low, but it ran so smooth I wanted to ask.
I can't ski with a prop that will hold the revs in range running WOT with just me in the boat, and that's OK.

I don't have any pictures with the new motor. I'll have to take some. It does sit lower in the back, and will occassionally porpoise at wakeboard speeds. Balance was better with the smaller engine. But the new one is a beast by comparison and it burns far less fuel for ski duty.
50 with the 17 ski prop on the limiter and that's all that I've tried for a month. Lot's of ski and board towing.
Thanks again John, it's a great family boat.

i in addition to my viper, i have a 16' baja/tahiti/sidewinder-like clone with the same hull bottom, and have been thinking about getting a 115ho myself. LOVE to see pics of modern motors on old boats.

Does this picture work? From March 31. The water was 32, patches of ice in the coves.
