Rude 300 prop
I recently purchased a 20' Concord Mach II with a 300 HP Evinrude. The boat was sold without a propeller and I was told to purchase a 14.5 x28p. After taking the boat on the lake I feel this prop is wrong for the boat and need some suggestions/help. Here are the problems I experienced and my current set up:
Problems:
WOT only 4000 RPM (untrimmed)
Motor bogs down and dies when pulling skier out of the hole
When the boat reaches plane the propeller slips and cavitates. This causes a loss of acceleration and plane
Setup:
Evinrude 300 (dyno at 360)
10.5" setback on jackplate
Motor and jack plate in highest position
28p Raker 3-blade propeller
20' Concord Mach II
One other thing I have a question about is the rpm at idle and when put into gear. The engine idles in N between 1200-1500rpms. When shifted into gear rpms drop to 600-800 and the engine struggles to keep running if you do not feed it gas. To me it seem the engine idles fast in neutral and slow when in gear. I would like to adjust the engine to idle around 1000 when in N and in drive. Would this be ok or is there a reason for the difference in rpms?
Thanks for the help.
