    Vamp Question

I am in the process of replacing the core and floor in my Vamp. Yesterday we planned to cut out the stringers in order to remove the core in the pad area. What I thought were stringers was actually an inverted "u" shaped section of fiberglass that is bonded to the bottom of the hull just outside the pad area (top section has a wood grain pattern to it; assuming this is from the resin that was on the underside of the floor). I'm wondering if it would be best to remove the fiberglass "floor support" and replace it with stringers and a cap to support the floor, or if it would be best to keep it and re-glass it once the core replacement is complete.

Below are pictures of the access holes I cut so I could get to the core under it.

That is a type of stringer, its a box stringer. Not all stringers have something inside them. You make it on a mold outside the boat and then cut and glass it in. Ive done it on a bunch of boats. Bis and small.

    Gorilla,

Thanks for the information. If it were yours would you replace it with another fiberglass stringer, or would you make the new one from wood? I would rather it be strong than light.

This is a wise avenue to pursue. The original part is a chop-gun layup structure, and as such doesn't have much structural integrity. Adding some knytex will help give it some.
