'99 175EFI sitting 4 years --what would you do to it?
Hello all,
I'm wanting to get my dads old boat back on the water. It's a 1971 MFG caprice with a '99 (maybe '00) 175EFI Merc. The boat has been sitting in a garage since August 2008. I should have done this sooner but the boats 1200 miles away and I'm just now in a position to pick it up.
Question to the mechanics, obviously the fuel is bad. What what you do to this engine to get it back up and running? I'm assuming the fuel system needs to be gone through completely. Engine has an aftermarket exhaust tuner and aftermarket ECU, I don't know if this is relevent, just trying to get some solid advice on what needs to be done to get it going. Thanks in advance!

You may just want to send the injectors off to Brucato and have them serviced. See if they can help you with the ECU as well, of it's one of theirs, they may have a firmware undate. If its never been done, the injectors would be way over due anyway, regardless of sitting for 4 years. New plugs, flush the fuel system, check for leaks, new fuel filter(s), install a water pump kit, change lower unit lube and run it!
