Mercury 3.0L lower crank seal and end cap replacement

Have oil and gas puddle under 2001 Mercury 3.0L EFI outboard. Have worked injectors, new reeds, new bleed lines, new oil pump, new temp sensor, no gas leak with hp fuel pump on for 30 minutes. Still after idle 20 minutes and let set in garage over night, get 10" puddle of black oil/gas under motor. Nothing inside cowl area, has to be coming down inside of engine. Idles and runs great, now to my question. Is it possible to change the lower crank seals and end cap seal by just dropping the lower unit and exhaust can?? Has 120 psi, but plugs are wet after idling

no, you have to pull the powerhead. also, if it is an older 3 liter merc came out w/ an updated end cap that holds the seals, if you are not sure and it is older then '02-'03, change the whole endcap assy. as far as the puddle on the ground it could also be unburned fuel coming out of the cylinders, and leaking onto the ground thru the exhaust. if the seals fail it could possibly get water into #6 cylinder, so if you are not sure you mite be better off changing the endcap/seal assy. you could pull the gearcase, rite after running it, and try to look up the midsection w/ a flashlite into the exhaust tuner and see if you see any fuel dripping out of the tuner(where the exhaust exits), at least that would tell you if the oil is coming from unburned fuel coming out of the cylinders

Thanks, no water in number 6. Must be unburnt oil and gas. Set tps to lean .90 and puddle is only size of silver dollar this time out.

I had a pair on a tiara 225 efi and had the boat on a lift every time I lifted the boat back out of the water for a run a black mess of unburnt fuel and oil would drip out and leave a sheen down the canal they did have much for EPA standard then and ran like fat pigs at idle make sure your coming up to temp that helps a lot .
