2.4 bridgeport power head replacement with 2003 2.5 200 efi power head?

Will a 2003 2.5 EFI readily fit on my 2.4 midsection? The 2003 2.5 is a complete motor so would it have a tuner, adapter, water tube plug and play with my existing midsection and CLE?

Also, would my current Alien cover have clearance with this power head?

As always thanks for any feedback!

Shouldn't be a problem bolting on the powerhead. Pretty sure the cowling will work too.

The hole pattern in the adapter may be a bit different, but the big difference will likely be the cowl pan. The high-performance cowl pan has solid sheet metal covering the two adapter passages that most of the bassboat motors use for the poppet valve. I'm not sure if the later 200's also have this, but the holes may need to be opened up in the pan.

I did the opposite swap and upgraded my old '89 2.4 200 EFI powerhead for my '90 Bridgeport EFI a few years ago. In my case, it worked out because I also upgraded to a '96 260 cowling, which covers the poppet dump holes in the adapter. The only mismatch was the large rectangular exhaust dumps in the Bridgeport, which are mated up to smaller square-shaped exhaust holes in the adapter, leaving a "step" restriction in the exhaust flow. The motor doesn't seem to care. I went from a 80 mph boat to a 95 mph boat with the upgrade.

Why do you want to downgrade the motor? ...and why not just swap the complete motor if that's what you want?

It will work fine. Just bring all the parts you mentioned over with it. Exhaust plate, tuner, etc.

You may end up having to change a few studs in the bottom of the powerhead. The triangle shaped hole for the poppet should be there already, but not hard to cut out if need be. This will be basically a bolt on swap.

Thanks Guys....So far the feedback indicates it would be straight forward swap?

To answer Pyro...Just looking for more long term reliability, as I boat on the Sac Delta and run a lot of miles in a day sometimes 100 plus.

Was looking into a new 300sx but way heavy and hard to justify the money on a $10,000 boat.

    Yep.

This is the poppet hole you want to be sure is present. If your cowl is from a ProMax, it already will have it.

    Thanks Transomstand

Not sure what plate I have the cowling is aftermarket. In theory in could overlay the factory plate to the alien to ensure match or modify?

Sure, a factory plate, or just the gasket would give you the pattern. Make sure you use the heavy duty (and expensive) HP gaskets

    OK.......in summary

All late model hardware... adapter, tuner, etc and bolt patern should swap over to exsisting old mid section from what I understand. (however, Pyro was conserned that adapter may be a bit different?). At this point, the only open issue (hopefully) would be the cowling plate cut outs.

The adapter may be a different style. It may be a one piece adapter. The stock motor will use a two piece plate, with the motor mounts sandwiched between the halves. The mounts should be replaced with solid mounts, the rubber ones have too much slop for a performance application.

If you can shoot a close up picture of your exhaust plate, we can tell you what you have.

I thought the exhaust plate holes that mount the plate to the can were bigger on the 2.5 exhaust plate. The 2.4 can would need to be drilled out and re-threaded. Could be wrong, but I thought I had to do this before.

Your short powerhead studs may not provide full thread engagment with the extra gasket and cowl base plate. Check the length of the short studs in the BP as compared to the stock 200.
