Favorite Prop and Why
OK guys thought i would put this out there to make aware of lots of different options and maybe some familiarity's in what people like about there favorite props and why.
Name prop & pitch
The hull
The power
And why
Pics if ya got em but not necessary. Will try and make it simple.
My favorite Prop Ive ever had the pleasure of using was a 26 Off Shore cut on my Allison 225 Pro max. I liked it because it has great hole shot and top speed of true to pitch. Its how fast the prop winds up to Top speed I like the most about it. Also seems to carry a load well.
Basically like that. Hopefully there will be hundreds of different boat and reasons and props. This might help some guys in trying to figure out what they might want to try next.
Lets hear what ya got and why. James

30" ET....I bought it from a guy that called it an "offshore cut"
xb2002
15" 200xs
Brought the boat to life. Lifts like there is no tomorrow and will run right on the limiter. Awesome prop.

27" SRX worked by DAH
Rapid Craft Hurricane
Merc 150 XR6 (stock)
Fastest, best handling prop of the many that I've tried. Lifts as good as a chopper and runs as free as an ET while keeping the stern planted. Unfortunately it threw a blade this past summer. I've bought another and it is close but not quite the same as the DAH.

I've got faster props, but the one I use most is a 24 Laser
SS2000
150 XR4, lightly modded
The Laser will pull me out on one ski and run low 70's, which is as fast as the lake will let me go most days. I'm open to suggestions for a waterski/70 mph prop. Surely there is something better.Last edited by David; 01-03-2012 at 08:16 PM. Reason: addition

DAH 27" SRX
89' Hydrostream Vegas XT
3.0l GT-200 OMC Looper
I've tried just about every prop you could think of, and nothing has been better than this DAH SRX. It runs awesome top end, has great bow lift, accelerates great, and doesn't hardly slip at all at low speeds like every other chopper I've tried.Ian
...boatless for now.

Good top end (109 mph) and awesome midrange.....Best all-around prop for my setup.

DAH 28P small ear chopper
I bought this prop from Mike Tyler (my last several props actually) and hung it on my 2.0 XR2 and it was the most slippin-est wheel I've ever tried, all around. Took it to John @ DAH and said "make it hook"....and he did. My 2.0 wouldn't even spin it out of the hole with a 1.87 sporty even with the pad. Behind the 2.5, its a monster into the 90's...it "gives a little too much" lift and gets a little sketchy. Great holeshot and seriously hooked up through the midrange but requires attention and the occasional down button on the big end in my small boat. Would be a perfect prop for a comparable hull that's in the 80's somewhere.
So I suppose the moral of the story is, "be careful what you ask for"

Rich Junker / Leading Edge Propeller ET cut.
Fast, quick to plane even with my extreme engine height, handles great and carries a load. Makes my boat "easy" to drive.13' Biel tunnel AKA "Flight Risk"

Bottom line is the prop is the most important part of the puzzle providing there are no other set-up issues. The wheel completely changes the feel of the boat and can make it either a dream or a nightmare to drive. Some very interesting combos so far.

SS2000 with 260 merc. 15" mid, sporty case (stock, for now) even with the pad (for now)
i have several props that i run with. drag prop is a 24p drag 4 and 3 blade. (depends on situation)
lake playing prop right now is a 28p yammy drag, with ALOT of modification. extremely fast holeshot and awesome topend. (so far 97 at 7500 with alot of throttle left)
i plan on trying out several other props this summer, unless the boat sells first.
i wanna try a 32p lightening et.
i personally like the way the drag props drive on this boat. it don't need any help with bow lift, so the drag props really drive and accelerate great.

Everybody says its the wrong prop, but for my narrow twisting, curvey river the Trophy works best for me.
1998 Quartershot T-3

Propshaft even with the pad
I have tried ET's, cleaver's, SRX's Yamaha Drag's, Ect. and for how I ride, (no drag racing or top end running), and needing to slow down, to cross boat wakes, then take back off again, holding thru turns, etc, it works good for me.
It is surley not a drag prop, and needs to be "feathered" upon take off, but it has run 95.9 with a stock 2.4 - 200. (150 psi heads)
I run a 28 now, cause I broke my 1.87 gearcase, and I am running a 2.1...but on a 1.87 case, I run the 27.....I also have a 26 for rough summer traffic, where I have to slow down, and speed back up again....(a lot)Last edited by WATERWINGS; 01-04-2012 at 03:01 PM.

I like the trophy's also. I have a trusted 25 that came with the GS. Brian and i tryed quite a few props on lake Murry in SC when I was buying the boat. The 25 trophy seem to be an all round good pitch and midrange prop for the GS with a 225. I still use that prop extensively. Have you ever tryed a Modified trophy waterwings? I did once it was a 27 Ali cut from Jeff RacerX. wasn't anything to write about in hole shot but from mid range to top end it felt like I hit a nitrous switch!! I love how responsive the OS cut in the smaller pitches now. But I always reach for that 25 trophy now and then{old Faithfull} when water conditions are less than perfect.
