New Mercury XS250/300 or Evinrude 250 H.O ?
Mercury people over here (Sweden) say Torquemaster will fit me best.
Evinrude 250 H.O change the gearcase from L2 to M2 2011 = better coolant and slower.
Which choise for my 7 meter Ribboat.
Stepped hull, powerlift, bowtank. Weight around 550-600 kg without engine.
My previous engine is sold (Evinrude 150 H.O) Topspeed 56 knots.
The question which engine to go for? I know a 250 H.O with L2 Gearcase and only 20 hour...

Both are great engines....as for the gearcase, for $350-400 you can cone (Low water pickup) the L2 and then its game over....Weve been running the snot out of the L2's without one failure on our 250+ HO's. But either way you go, you will be happy.....

Yes...but the M2 gearcase is bigger ???
Looks like a 250 H.O with L2 (include nosecone) or XS 300 is the melody...

Bigger diameter means slower and more stern lift in general. All depends on your boat really.

Jocke, like i say before, if the regulation i the class you race dont aloud you run propshaft MINIMUM center lined with bottom, SM will slow you down. And you kan take a Torquemaster ( mercury ) up to 85 mph before blowout ( some runs faster than that ) and in Sweden wher you live, used part ( if something broke) merc parts is easier to find.. side to side the 250:s powerhead merc XS & rude HO will do the same job good enough. When it comes for 300hp, i will go for the merc so long E-tec dont show up with a 300HO + race proven gearhouse..

Peter
If i will race i can only go for 250 hp. The boat is to short for the 300.
But i want a fun boat and will not race...so a xs 300 sounds good. And i can lift high... so maybe a sportmaster is right. If a velocity 22 can do 71 knots with TM i guess i caaan be faster.

I would do a 300xs with a sporty or tm. I would still pic a sporty if i had the choice.....

Jocke, I'm pretty sure that both the TM and SM are quite similar on WOT but it is at cruising speed you will notice that that the Sporty will slow down much more vs TM, you'll prpably also notice a much higher fuel economy with the TM.
I've been close, steady tests on my boat (V22) as recently as last summer where I shifted SM and TM (both 1:75). SM was even slightly slower than TM on my Velocity 22.

Run it up way high and throw the sporty on there with a big diameter prop. Just my 2 cents....
One more thing about the sporty no one has brought up, it looks way cooler!!!!!! LOL.Cawley

I fully agree with that native
What I meant is that Joachims ribboats is just a litle bit to slow for a Sporty, the RIB is not made for a Sportys.
Another important issue to consider is that if you have the boat in the water all season long the Sporty will propably take more damage than a TM because the TM has stainless prop/drive shaft while an Sporty comes with chromemoly shafts.
(hope you understand my Swenglishh)
