    Evinrude 250 H.O VS Mercury 250 XS?

    On my rib for race?

I had a 150 H.O and like the engine very much.

The Mercury is 266 hp and the E-tec is 270+ hp if i understand right.

    Which to go for.

If Merc. Sportmaster or Torquemaster. I looking at around 65 knots...

I'm a definite proponent of the E-Tec, but you can't compare what the guys are racing around here with an off-the-shelf 250HO E-Tec. If you were to compare what they've been able to do with a Mercury, you'd have to compare it to what Dave Bush is doing with a 300XS which is around 335 HP or so...just a public service announcement.

That being said, my 225HO is an awesome motor...I've driven 250HO motors though and they're like throwing a supercharger on a 225HO. AWESOME motor - even right off the showroom floor.

A 250HO won the World Championship in the Green class at Jasper in '10. That was against a 300XS.

True, but the 300XS had to weigh more. And actually, didn't the 200XS win the race as an exhibition...so does that mean a 200XS is faster than a 250HO or 300XS? I'm talking about all things being equal and was responding to the comparison of the race-bred E-Tecs running around here versus a stone stock (with rev-limiter) 300XS.

No, the 200XS was DQ'd for being way under weight. The HO got a 50# break.

And I don't think anyone believes there is any such thing as a bone stock Mercury running up there.

So what you're saying is that anybody who buys a 250HO should expect it to run like George's and Larry's? That was what I was commenting about. I'm just trying to make sure the gentleman gets clear information on his question....you have to compare apples to apples. Stock 250HO versus stock 300XS or race-bred 250HO versus 300XS.

No, apples to apples is the 250HO to the 250XS, like he asked. That would be all things being equal.

True. I'm going back to my comment on FoxLake-H.O.'s comment that the 250HO E-Tecs are "far surpassing 250/300 XS motors in Drag Racing around these lakes". My point is that I don't know that they would "far surpass" a 300XS if it were a stock 250HO. Why are we arguing this point...I know you would agree with that.

Bored at the shop.... But the stock 250HO did beat the 300XS, more than once, albeit with the 50# break.

Sam, We still havent met and some day hopefully we will ( i mean that in a positive way, it didnt type right), when I sold a certain brand of Bass Boat with a Hydrostream Bottom we were getting a SOLID 4-6mph speed difference on the 2008/2009 250 ho vs. the best 250 Pro XS drivers, NOT ME DRIVING as Larry will tell ya, ha ha ha....the 250 ho is NOT A 250, plain and simple, just like the XS.....the Lower Unit on the Stock (L2 not M2) will help it exceed height limitations that the Torquemaster has, I know it has Higher pickups than you guys like but Stock to Stock the 250HO will Eat the XS......NOW, today, if you buy a 2012 250 HO since BRP has their head up someones ass you will have to Mod it or Sell the ANCHOR M2 and get the Larry/George lower......
