prop choice for Mini Voo-doo w/ 70hp evinrude

Hello i'm new to the forum, i have an 89 mini voodoo with a 89 70hp evinrude (13 spline) on it all stock with a hydrofoil and smart tabs. my prop is a 13 7/8 x 21 pitch viper stainless. the boat does 55mph and it revs quite high at about 6100rpm, i want to do about 65mph. i was thinking about a cleaver prop to reduce bow lift, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on what pitch and diameter i should run. i would like my rpm to be 5800-600 Max.

    thank you for your suggestions!

    Ben

    Ben,

The limiting issue you will run into is finding props in the pitch and dia. to get you to the mph range you want with that gear case. The gear ratio in that case is 2.42 so in order to get to your goal you are going to have to run a very large pitch prop and take the rpm above the 6100 level you are at now. You will at least need a 25 pitch or bigger prop to achieve this kind of speed and a good set up. I'm not sure you will be able to attain that speed with that gear case, the bullet on that case is large compared to the nitro gear cases from the stingers which have a 1.78 gear ratio, the nitro case is propbably 4-5 mph faster then the case you have due to the smaller bullet. The nitro cases are becoming harder to come by and are a 15" case whereas yours is a 20" case. In order to run the nitro case with your motor you have to source a 15inch mid (short shaft) from a stinger or other 3 cylinder motor from the 70's or 80's and make a few minor mods to accept the exhaust adapter from your current motor. There are a number of in Ontario that race the voodoo's, delta's and critches with lots of experience if you need some help.

Is the 55mph speed from a gps or a speedo as the math doesn't add up for the pitch, rpm and gear ratio for that motor.

    Cheers,

I spun my stocky 75 hustler 65-6800 forever with no issues. Including from the race site at Jasper to Chattanooga and back several times in one day. I ran a 24 raker on my Vixen, but it was a bitch to get out of the hole. Hauled ass on top end though. It has a proper motor on it now.

What do you have on it now?

Ben....an old thread on the voodoo with someone looking for the same info. Note the mini voodoo is not as fast as the full lenght voodoo either.

I think this is good reference ,the 75 had higher porting than the 70 . The 24 raker should work for him, in fact I know it will because the 70 porting allows more grunt at leaving the hole and still have the gears to a good top speed thanks.
