90 mirage 2.5 200, setup
I have a 90 mirage, with a 2.5 200 carb. My setup- 6" jackplate , nose cone even with plug, 27 tempest. I got 86mph @ 6300 rpm. But I had some porposing going on.
This is my first cat so any set up help is appreciated. Thanks.

You will need a over the hub prop., the thur the hub prop will not work with the motor that high.

yes it does it at WOT, it starts about 63mph, and the faster i go the bigger the porpose.
as for the prop, I've tried the following and the best with most control was the tempest.
27 srx
28 chopper
28 et

A Mazco 30RE works best on my Mirage. 100 mph with a 225 Promax. I agree with Fast Rally, thru hub will not work right.

Could you post a pic of your boats bottom from the front? Some of the early bottoms were prone to hopping more than others.

Title says mirage, nevertheless I've tried all kinds of props and still got hopping.
I'm thinking maybe a hook in the hull. Does anyone know if these cats are prone to hooks.

My mirage starts porposing at around 80mph also and from what I have read/been told they all do to some extent. You just have to stay in the gas and drive through it and it will settle down. I agree with what was previously posted, that tempest isnt designed to be ran at the surface. Not only will you not see the max performance without a surface running prop, surfacing one that isnt designed for it can be dangerous. If that thing slings a blade at 80+ mph you will be in a world of trouble. Mirages have alot of natural bow lift so you need a stern lifting prop. Cleavers run the best on these style boats in my opinion.
