Brakes
I sort of posted this under trailering but didn't get many replies, so I'll post a simpler similar question.
For people with 20 - 22 foot boats, how many have brakes on their trailer?

Most states require brakes when the ratting on the trailer is 3000lbs or more. But then again the last 3 boats I had, the trailers were from a salt water state and didn't have brakes. I'm doing brakes next year as trailer is rated for 5240lbs. Boat is a 22ft Cougar

21 Eliminator, single axle aluminum trailer, no brakes.

Thanks for the replies. I have a Chevy 2500 HD Crew Cab with 8 foot bed and it seems fine. I think brakes possibly locking up (which is what was happening) is more likely to cause a problem than a trailer with no brakes. I swear I'm getting better mileage now.

I just put tiedown disc brakes on my single axle trailer. Cost about 400 bucks

I have seen them on the internet cheaper than that but that was my cost at work. They actually went on sale cheaper than that a couple of weeks ago.

I tow 20 ft. Stoker with tandem axle,no brakes, with Toyota RAV Sport trailer option,no problem, but I,too, have considered tiedown disc brakes too. The complete kit through Overton's is about $500.
why ask me ?
