Burning Wet Exhaust tubes
Is there any way to put water to the back side of the snails to prevent exhaust tubes from burning. I have to replace them every couple of years. Have a 160 thermostat so above idle it fine , but at idle when in no wake zones it dosen't open much thus burning the tubes. Is there a way to T off another line . there's also another port with a plug in it on the back side of the snail, don't know what if for . any help would be great. Thanks

I set up another boat, that used Lightning headers, and a thermostat. Here is what I did. I ran the tstat bypass hose overboard in a thru hull fitting. I tee'd the jet pump feed, one into the manifolds, then out to the engine inlet, the other then ran to the dumps on the headers. This gives water to the exhaust stream at all times, yet allows the t-stat to regulate the engine temp. This set up worked very well. The ports on the bypass were capped, since the t-stat now controll only engine water.
Hope this helps, got to run......79 Southwind Tunnel Dragster 540ci BBC

Most jet boats Big blocks dont run thermostats at all, just dont install on. they run the water thru the exaust logs to warm it up first before entering the block, then back out thru the snails.
Mind over matter, If you dont mind, It doesn't matter..
