[QUOTE=perfmarine1;2188874]Hey Gorilla you might as well take that steering touque tab off its not doing anything at that height. It don't look like a anode, Just extra weight!!!!![/QUOTE\

I know it doesnt do anything at full height, but cruising around it makes a little difference, I can deffinatly tell when it comes out of the water. Also there is a small water pick up on it that does something, not sure what but something...

Perfmarine1 is right, if your surfacing the prop at all, the tab is completely useless. Put a torque tab on the skeg and your good to go! I like the hydrofoil.

There is a torq tab on the skeg already. I guess I'll fill in the hole in the foil and take it off. I like the way it looks with it off better anyways.

Well I took off the tab and filled in the hole that I cut for it. Looks better anyway, dont know when I'll get to test it, prob next week, I'm just going to paint it all black with the aluminum fins. Going to look for taller ones, there just wakeboard fins.

Thanks Chris, just ran across this post. I've had and made several. The "SKID PLATE" is normally attached to the J/Plate and in either a fixed position and or moveable position plate on a Hyd. J/Plate. I bought a cav mount plate a few years ago from a guy on "FASTBASS" for my 225x bass boat motor, it was an Ally knock off but worked very well and attached to the bottom of the cav plate similar to the one posted here. If one really needs help upon launch a cav plate mounted design would provide the most benefit at all speeds. The "SKID PLATE" is mostly for coming off plane and allowing the stern where the skid plate is mounted to let the hull settle back in the water without putting the stern to deep and getting wash over back there and also a benefit for keeping water from collecting in the J/Plate or Static Set Back upon launch thereby acting like your drag'n a parachute when your trying to get on plane.

I would let the torque tab on. That little hole sprays water on the prop hub to keep it cool. I took mine off to put a plate on before going to the Romp a few years ago and it was the only time in my life I ever spun a rubber hub. It was melted bad. I put it back on and never had another problem.

Thats what I was told it did, I have switched to a solid hub (merc chopper 2)do you think there will be a prob? If you look inside the lower, I'm not sure how it sprays on the prop shaft. You can see the tube it goes into, but it doesnt seem to go to the prop shaft. I'll look when I get home. The hole was a bit off anyways, so if I need to I will redrill it. Besides when I'm running its not in the water, so does it still cool the hub???

Gorilla,I am sure that was a joke, there is no chance that little hole is going to spray water on the prop hub,its designed to take water in when run at stock height, jacked up it turns into a drain hole, you could take a garden hose and spray it at the prop and at 3000-6000 rpm it would not make it to the hub,the blades would make sure of that.

Well thats what the mechanic said and he said it to. I'll take pics of the inside of the lower when I get home. It deff has a tube that leads water somewhere in the lower, but it looks like it dumps into the exaust area.

I am being serious. The purpouse of the hole in the tab is to pick up cool water and it runs it though a passage and releases it into the exhaust so it has cooler water discharging around the prop. I know a few things about OMC's. I don't just make this sh*t up

Ok.I looked it does add water to exhaust,Ralph that had to be a fluke,I have been running with block off plates on all my motors, cuz big props will hit that thing, and have never spun a hub. No 2.5 race motor have them they are blocked off as well. Now maybe just maybe with a thru hub it would have a affect on cooling the hub,I doubt it,but flying through the air jacked up,or in a little spray, it can not.

Greg I was running a 4 blade through hub with a rubber hub and the propshaft about 2 inches below. Keep in mind my v8 is a fire breather and I have a much heavier boat.
