Engine oil
What is everyone running for engine oil? I have a flat tappet camshaft still, was hopping to change to roller this year but its not in the bugget. I have been running Brad Pen 20/50 racing oil, is it the best or not?

You need an oil with ZDDP (Zinc & and other stuff) Most oils now do not have it in any more due to catalytic converter life. You can buy a 4oz bottle of this additive when you change oil or Royal Purple HPS has still has the high zinc content. I'm sure there are a few others.

Red Line saved my A$$ last year when I lost a intake gasket and filled the motor with water. It still had great lubricity and didn't hurt anything. After talking with my machine shop they commented that this is one of Red Lines great attributes.

any hp performance oil will do, add a bottle of Lucas breakin additive, for non roller applications.

I run Shell R3 Rumela 15W40 Turbo Diesel oil, still has the Zinc content. But just to be sure I add 2 x Comps Cam additive.
You just can't trust the oil companies any more.

I buy 5 gallon buckets of straight 40 weight from the local Farm and Fleet. At $36 for the bucket, it's hard to beat. Dump in a couple bottles of the ZDDP additive at each oil change, I have enough for 2 changes with my 10 qt pan.
