Walmart?
Went to Walmart to check out oil. Went to the boat section and they had the merc premium plus, pennzoil premium plus and pennzoil xlf. Afterwards I went to the auto section and in the back they had a "marine oil" section. Here they had quicksilver and evinrude oils. Anyone else notice this? Why do they separate the oils. Also I assume the quicksilver red/blue are equivalent to premium plus and premium merc? Reason I am asking is I just had my motor rebuilt and read a couple of different posts about using merc Dino oil. Was wondering if the quicksilver stuff in the back of the car oil section is something I could buy.

Found out YEARS AGO that where a product is placed at Walmart is a negotiated business agenda with the vendor.
Brad Collins ( Mirage Boat Owner ) and I had a deal going with Walmart years ago and "thought" our venture was to be placed in the boating section by the shear nature of the subject matter , WRONG.. A vendor must PAY for placement in premium and or subject matter area of their store....
Believe it or not !
Also IMO Pen. is GREAT oil ANY of the Pen. products will live fine in motors turning 8000 or less, go to the bank with it ....

Great insight. Never thought to look in the car oil section for outboard oil especially considering they have a marine section. I typically use the Penn. Premium but heard the Dino stuff could/should be used during breakin. When I went to Walmart I couldn't find the merc Dino stuff but then by chance found the quicksilver Dino stuff. Guess you have to look twice at Walmart.

Any body noticed the brown junk in the bottom of the pennzoil containers? I still use the stuff in my premix motors. But seeing this gunk makes me wonder about the quality control at penzoil... Merc prem plus still goes in my DFI and oil inj. EFI's.... Do not see much gunk in the merc oil container bottoms....

Used the Pennzoil 100 % synthetic 32 : 1 for 120 hours on a fresh Nic ,new Merc pistons , rings bearings etc and I am no real hotrod , wide open all the time guy and the rings were wiped out almost all silver across the faces of the rings . Never overheated , never above 7600 rpm and only for short bursts at that RPM. Engine was a 96 260 . Changed oils to Amsoil Sabre 32 :1 for this go around ..we shall see .You must have an hour meter to properly evaluate your own personal oil performance as it will vary for each application .Just my buck fifty as an average hot boater .
