some electronic gozmos are interfering with my velocity stack insalation

what are the electronic things that are attached to the airbox housing?? im thinking that they may be choke solenoids or something??? they are connected to all sorts of wires and i cannot instal the velocity stacks without removing them and if they have to be there then im going to have to fab up some kind of bracket thing to keep them there.

i know that velocity stacks just look cool and make allot of noise. ay this point though thats all my boat seems to be good for anyways....

    the motor is a merc 150 xr2 from 1985 2.0 liter

ill post some pics of the motor with the cowling off

    thanks!!!

maybe the enrichner valve. It gives a shot of fuel when you push in your key.

behind the rectangle things there a little round thing. its bolted onto the housing and has wires going all over. i also just noticed that on the other side of the airbox housing down by the bottom theres a tiny black rubber hose that just conects to the box i cant figure out what it would do... there must be passagesof some kind in there... hopefully i can just toss the whole assembly and clean things up in there...

well you got enrichner, trim solenoid, starter solenoid voltage regulator and rectifier. I dont think you can do without any of them.

makes sense about the trim... so your saying that thats not supposed to be atached to where it is, like somebody riged it that way ??? this would then mean that it could be relocated????? and what about the little black tube thats on the other side of the airbox???

thats the trim solenoids thats where they mounted them on the earlier model motors i have half dozen air filters with them still bolted too it. They were on all the 2.0 150hp and a lot of 175 and 200 2.4 some were mounted on top of the manifold and some on the side

they had special brackets for the side mounted solenoids i may have one loose you could move the stuff and your stacks would bolt on

The sm. hose is to draw excess fuel from the airbox, you can plug it at the block. Don't forget to check your jetting with the stacks on.

the velocity stacks have no gaskets included is this an issue?? i was just going to bolt them on. also my plugs at this point are sooty and oily, black i would say, but otherwise no debris or starnge stuff... to me that says too much oil or to rich??? if this is the case i think i am safe with the velocity stacks... let me know if my plug diagnosis is correct and if i need to i can snap some pics. i certainly dont want to put all this work into it and kill it.

the bracket im talking about was on the horizontal fronts im not sure it will work on the verts i think ill look tomorrow it bolted on the side of the manifold the vertical front is totally different but any good fabricator can come up with a device to mount two solenoids on some where out of the way
