    '11 300XS weight

Mercury Racing's webpage and prior year placards I have seen for the 300XS w/ 20" mid list the weight at 505 lbs..........yet the placard on my '11 lists the weight as 501 lbs. Is the '11 actually 4 lbs lighter, or did Mercury run a bunch of misprinted placards? Not that the weight difference would make any difference whatsover, but I do find it interesting.

Mine are 501 as well, the owners manual says 505 and if you have a torque master the book puts the weight at 480. It probably won't make much difference on your boat.

One of the things I miss about B&WB Magazine. They would do an actual weight of the motor VS what the companies stated the motor weight was. The big 3 (Merc, Yam and Rude) all stated their motors were lighter than they actually were. I would have to dig for it, but I think the 3.0L Opti's were actually like 518-520 something. and Merc was closer to their listed weight than the others were.

Yep, you really have to hang 'em from the meat hook, with a lower unit full of lube and full of fluids
