New 300xs powerhead color

This probably seems trivial, but I just got a new pair of 300xs engines from Mercury Racing and the powerheads are painted black. I was under the impression that all the racing powerheads were painted with that light gold or whatever you want to call that color.

Is this something new? Special thanks to Scott Yow at Innovation for all the help.

What year? I called Mercury and they told me that mid 2009 they changed to black. I don't know if the guy on the phone was correct or not...

I have two 300xs built in August 2009 and they are both Black.

I've had 70-80 300XS's since 2006 and they were always black.

merc racing assembled my 200xs in april 2010 - no paint on the block, gold colored heads and black painted flywheel. Some pictures of it in low emissions-new race models thread .

only the first production 300xs were not painted. i bought mine in august of 06 and it is not painted. all 07 and up were painted blocks.
