    1999 Mercury Optimax 225hp----Good Buy?

Good evening everyone. Wanted to get some more knowledgeable than me advice on a used 1999 Mercury Optimax, with 1 piston that burned. I've heard that 99-01 Optimax's are to be avoided because they tend to burn pistons and what not. My question is the guy is selling the motor that has seen some salt, well probably alot but has been kept in very good condition and he wants to sell it cheap, is it worth it? He readily admits it will need to be honed out and the cylinder sleeved, so the question remains, is it worth the money to even mess with it?

How could anyone answer this question when you don't say what the money is?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. What's the main reason for the don't touch approach?

Used motor to rebuild you want a carb motor or straight EFI,parts for the air system on an OPTI make for another headache altogether, newer one might be ok if it was still running.

Well I'm glad that I came here for advice, that would have been an expensive mistake to make.
