    Old boat new questions

Been reading the forum for years but this will be my first post.
Just picked up a BBC 1969 SCHIADA V-Drive flatbottom.

Boat is for the most part stock and has the Aero Marine Thoroughbread
V-drive in it. My question is what is the normal way to run this as in
do you shift the drive only with the engine off or can this be shifted into
forward while the boat is at idle.? Thanks.!

If it has a transmission mounted to the engine (i.e. B/W Velvet Drive) it can be shifted at idle. If it has a reverser mounted to the v-drive then it must be shifted with the engine off. If so, you may have to press it into gear with one hand while you turn the driveshaft with the other. They are a clutch dog type engagement like a lower unit in an outboard, but you don't want to engage it while running.
