    Drums are bad...

They fill with water (obviously) and turn the overcomplicated brake components into a big ball of rust making them useless....that and the pre-historic adjusters...

Discs are WAY less maintenance, dry faster/better and provide better and more consistant braking...

Go with Kodiak stainless brakes and never have to replace them again.

    I agree...
The drums will make you sorry when the rust causes them to freeze up while you are pulling it down the road. My SS discs are trouble free.

Yep, and Champion trailer is the place for parts, unless you have a good local source

Do disc run cooler? My past trailers with drums liked to suck water into the bearings even with new seals.

So i have ran into another problem...... my axels on my trailer have no backing plates for the drum backing plate or the bracket for the discs. So now my question is... is there a company that makes backing plates that you can weld on?

OK, lets cut to the end chase here. Drums, are junk. Champion, has what needed, Discs, and $300+ an axle. ..?..DONE. And all is included, in the kits, for replacing old drum junk. Even if a new axle needed, just go here, link, or call them. Wasting time here, do the source..click, or call..damn good people..

Has zip to do with either...brakes do heat, and have to bet that disc's, run WAY cooler, as the old drums, sucked heat to the backing plate/shaft. Hence, seal area. Make sense?

Don't completely write off drum brakes. They must be properly maintained. I had a set last many (5-6) seasons in salt water but I flushed them every time. They are available with galvanized components so if you go drum be SURE to get galvanized. Also, you do not need a lock out to back them up.
