yes, looking at it tom. i actually found it on craigslist just before you told me about the ad on the other site...same motor. It's about 1.5hrs away. Thanks for the info...learning a bit about the inlines...

i actually bought a boat last week with an 87 115, clean from up north. I yanked the motor off and put on the viper, was in process of hooking it up and saw this 1500xs....Now i've got a friend at work wanting me to put the 115 back on the boat that i just took it off of and he wants to buy it. So i might pick up this xs motor, it would look great on the viper, match nicely. I just hope it appears as it does in pics, the guy seems honest in things he has told me about it. The shortshaft would look nice. I have a 200 2.4 that i'm having a ridgeback offshore mid being cut down by marty powell right now, it was going to go on the viper. I just think the inline short would look sweet, and still maybe get me well into the 70's. The cheapest route would be to just find a shortshaft mid/lower and put my adi powerhead on, but haven't seen any of them for sale.
