tandem towing
I may have to pull two STVs to Florida. Anyone have pics of a tandem set-up?

Make sure its legal, not allowed in B.C. but they let you in Alberta. I'm sure different states have different laws as well.

Started that process today. Called the state police and the first response was no but then after I mentioned the double bottoms we see on the roads all the time he referred me to a level 1 truck inspection office which I will contact tomorrow.

Need to become buds with a towtruck operator that has a deck truck, one on the deck and tow the second one. There is a guy up here that gives real good rates for "cash".
It would suck to have that get out of shape at highway speed.

Hank Hogan towed tandem at the Suwannie. Wish I had checked out his rig. I know it is legal in some states but from Illinois to Florida is going to involve several so checking them all might take a couple days. I assume there needs to be a couple struts from the center of the back cross support to the side rails and a plate to mount the ball. Hopefully someone can show a pic of one.

what about stacking them? you should be able to find a fab shop or a welder to make brackets. considering that the stv's aren't heavy. you could also probably use wood if it's fabbed right. how do you think the manfacturers get them to the dealer.

Pretty good info here, 2008 but I doubt it's changed

Doesn't look like you can even get out of Ill. w/out the first one being a 5th. wheel
I read thru all the states and Fl. and Ga. say NOOOOO!
is gone

Thanks Jeff. That is the kind of info I was hoping to see. Maybe not the answer I wished for but good solid info.

We did it. 3/4 or 1 ton, long wheel base Ford van w/a Mirage pulling my STV. Ohio to Shreveport for a ByUBoyz rally several yrs ago. Non stop, both ways, no issues. Mike (owner of van and Mirage) had a receiver welded into the rear of his trailer frame and an extended tongue made. We ended up dropping his lower unit to clear the hitch and the bow of my boat. With it on it cleared but was close.
I remember him checking legality's before trip and all he found was a total/combined maximum length of I think 75' which we were under. A great way to travel ($$) w/two boats and other than some intimidating swaying at anything over 90 (!!), no issues.
I remember one year a guy towed two STV's to the Rumble and did it exact same way.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Just hope you don't have to go in reverse. I don't think tandem rigs like to go backwards......

Well Cawley, one must plan his maneuvers well ahead of time. I have towed tandem before as well as with 4 wheel trailers that steer. Both are nearly impossible to back.

I have never done it. Looks a bit intimidating for me.... I remember a couple of years ago when Warren towed the stv and the mirage in tandem to river ranch. Looked pretty cool..... He said he got pulled over, but was not ticketed. I hear your old boat may have found another home... Hope all is well.
