    Cool Comparison photo's Merc 225 4-stroke and Yamaha 225 4-stroke

Our Merc-a-ha is getting mounted this morning for our harbor boat. There is a 2002 225 Yamaha nearby that I got pictures of to compare. The only difference is the upper cowl and the plastic midsection cover. The cowls are LITE!!! Our motor is a 2003 model.

I read a boating magazine article. That would be a Yamaha built 225 painted black. Boating did say that the merc cowl was a wee bit quiter than the Yamaha.

Alaska, after all of the problems you had with the optimax the mercaha will probably run hundreds of hours with nary a complaint.

Maybe someday merc will release some info on it's big four stokes. But if they go silent, I would expect to see more mercaha's. Which will be sad. If you wan't a big four stoke your choice will be limited to Yamaha, Honda or Suzuki.

    Well Alaska...

I know my statement ain't gonna sit well with many hardcore 2-strokers, but those engines look might nice and very clean.

Yea, I knows they weight a ton and don't rev, but remember...the folks that are buying them don't care!

We all missing the boat if we think Merc and Yam are trying to rig some speed or bass boats with dem beauties.

Bottom line they probably work very well for the intended use.

    Unhappy Yamaha !!

Well .....not sure what to say !! I know that if Yamaha puts there mind to it they can build it !!!!!! There new snowmobile the RX1 is quite a piece of work ..........and FREAKINN fast ( out of the box )
120++ mph . 4 cyl ,4 stk , and now there are BIG turbo kits availible . .
Allthough it does make me sick that they would allow a Yamaha to be painted black and sold as a Merc-crapy !!

    Jeff .

Bottom Line!?! I'll give you a bottom line!

Those pigs are the biggest, overweight, ineffiecent costly outboards MADE!

They're slightly quieter than the 2 stroke models that beat them in EVERY other category hands down. Why would a harbor boat need that? I would think they would need power over all

Sounds like somebody is being used as a guinea pig from the local sales rep that couldn't make the Opticrap work but hell they don't work on any boat!
