    Freeze Plugs in 460

Do these commonly corrode and leak in jet boats? I just got a "new to me" jet boat with a 460 and it seems to be leaking from somewhere and it seems that from looking at older posts freeze plugs may be to blame. I was wondering how common that is and are they hard to replace yourself?

    Thanks

Yes they do, most all auto freeze plugs are steel. Marine applications require brass freeze plugs, for the corrosion control. Some thing such as these

Check the water passages real good for to see if there is mud or silt in the passages after you remove the freeze plugs. Yes they do make an installation tool. Some auto parts stores will lend ya tools.

I have installed many brass freeze plugs in my v-drive 460. I used an appropriately sized socket as the driver. The plug must be aligned very straight to seat properly. It really is quite straight forward.
