Toffen, interesting to see your comments about the motors torque. I would not have expected that. How do you find the power steering response?

Hi!
I used a Sea Star Pro on my PM 300 SVS. I used Latham steering with tie bar when I had my two 2.5 EFI's. I was also wondering how the power assisted steering would work, and its just as good as the Latham. Silky smooth and great response at speed.
The 350 sci gives higher torque than a 300 xs at cruise. And thats translates to accelleration. Much more snappier than my old PM 300, despite I had SVS and reclibrated ECU.
The only quibble I have is the gearcase that need lower proshaft height at cruise speed than I expected. At wot it has great bow lift and tracking control. And lots of water pressure. And it is very strong.
However, at cruise I get water pressure (15 psi at 4,000 rpms), but it need to be run relatively low to get clean water. A little dilemma, as my temp fluctate at 4000-5000 rpms. No alarms though Merc in Norway has sent me some high speed water inlet plates to test out as I can not get the engine lower without reconfiguring my transom. Hopefully they will give more and cleaner water, and still allow me to get the same speed at wot..

Looks great!! Toffen can you just run external pickups with that motor? That would be the ticket I think if ya could. I know theres another fellow out your way running them on his big Honda running really high gearcase hights with herring 5 blade props running over 100. If you have snap with 25,s you should still have stap with 28,s yes/no?

Hi,
Yes, thought of it too. I could install an adjustable lower pickup for cruise speed. And pull it up when I do wot runs. I will test a labbed 25 Mirage Plus this week. Just waiting for the right weather. Its been raining like h'''' lately. I have been experimenting with plugging some of the upper water inlets on the gearcase. It helps, but still fluctating. On the other hand, the temp is under control. No alarms and if I go off plane the temp is 66 celcius / 150 F. So its maybe only me beeing too paranoid. Target temp for the 350 sci is 70 celcius / 160F. T-stat fully opens at 175F. Water pressure is very good. 15 psi at 4,000 rpms, 20 Psi at 4,500 rpms, 25 psi at 5,000 rpms and 30 psi+ at wot. And rock stable as a mountain. Weird.
The strange thing is that the Poseidon gearcase have the same water inlet configuration as the Torquemaster gearcase. Its a bigger case, 5,44 dia against TM's 4,88. But anyway. I ran a TM case on my PM 300 at the same height at cruise without any problem. It even ran cold.

Hi,
Swopped to a labbed BBlades Mirage Plus 25 today. Could not do full speed due to too many boats on the fjord, but tested 4,000 and 5,000 rpms. The speed was the same as the A45 Tempest 25 (48 mph and 62 mph), but with the Mirage Plus the 350 sci used approx 10% more fuel. 44 litre vs 40 litre at 4,000 rpms. Hope to get a full speed run tomorrow.
I will test a Hydromotive 4bl 25 pitch too. And for fun a Chopper II 26 pitch too.

Hi,
Thanks. A terrible shock for everyone. Norway is a small country in popluation, so everyone is affected by this. Is unreal. We can not understand this at all. Our thoughts goes to the victims and their families.
All the best, Toffen

Hi!
Thanks Testet the labbed Mirage 25 plus. Not ideal conditions. Dead flat water and hot weather. Got consistent 78 mph at 6,500 rpms. 47-48 mph at 4,000 rpms and 60 mph at 5,000 rpms. Also tested a 4bl Hydromotive X O/B 25 pitch. Needed much more positive trim to free the hull. Ran 50 mph at 4,000 rpms and 60 mph at 5,000 rpms. Have not tested wot. Great accelleration, but engine burnt gas. 11,5 gph vs 10,5 gph with the A45 Tempest 25 at 4,000 rpms.
Next out will be a Merc Rev4 25 pitch prop. And hopefully a high rake Hering 4bl prop
Engine still pulls hard, great accelleration if the prop can deliver.

I will be curious to hear you feedback on the Rev 4 Toffen, especially against the Hydromotive QIV or the newer Hydromotive X O/B.
