    Hey K Boat Man!,
Talk about older tow vehicles, you may remember in the seventies, when vans were so popular. Lots of guys had custom vans, pulling custom boats, with both vehicles having matching paint and mag wheels too. El Caminos and Rancheros were more common as well for towing.
Don't blame your "Ford product" for overheating when towing......my current tow vehicle ( since '92 )is that '71 Ford Mach 1 previously posted....it's stock , has a/c, and it doesn't overheat....however, it did come from the factory with heavy duty cooling, and I added an additional trans cooler. You may simply just need to upgrade your cooling system .
O.K., I just found a picture of the 442 pulling my hydro. Let's go to the River!!!Click image for larger version.

Just this one more. This is a shot of my Mach 1 pulling my hydro , viewed from the side. The car doesn't taildrag, or overheat. Cool thing about this package, is that, the black on the trailer lines up perfectly with the black on the lower part of the car's body, and the gold on the orange and gold hull matches pretty well with the car's "yellow-gold" paint. I didn't plan that, it's just a coincidence.
I do get an occasional "thumbs-up" when going down the highway from other motorists.Click image for larger version.

    Nice stuff Spike.

I sure miss Parker and Golden Ave Long Beach for sure. I moved from SoCal to Discovery Bay in 1989 and make it to the river with my Offshore boat every 5 years or so. I do have a lowered dualie for that......I forgot about the van cool factor.

Yeah, I get a lot of comments at the launch, because I don't have a pickemup truck. Instead I use my 95 Audi S6 Avant. Only 300 imported, turbo I5, 5spd manual, factory heated recaros, big brakes, and about 300hp.

Sorry guys. I think trucks are pretty horrid. Crap acceleration, crap mpg, crap handling... just.. yuck. Think wagon. You'd be surprised at what they can tow comfortably.

    Nice wagon!

Apparently you haven't been behind the wheel of a modern turbo diesel pickup that has a few mods done to it. The handling department they aren't the greatest but I know of a few around here that run 12's or faster, are still used for towing, and can pull down near 20mpg when not pulling. In all seriousness, a wagon like that is great for a smaller boat but you don't want to try to control a bigger one with a passenger car. It comes down to physics, big heavy boat will push a relatively small, light car around when cornering or driving in high crosswinds.

Here's another Mustang that was used for towing. Nothing like cruising with the top down on the way to the launch.

My neighbor was an engineer on the Mustang program and just shook his head every time he saw the boat hooked to it. One day he drove it with the boat on it and was very impressed. He said that because of the low CG and tight suspension the car handled the trailer very well.

This one however is my all time favorite and regret selling it:

Low CG (for a truck) tight suspension and a supercharged V8. Man I miss that truck.

HA! You are sorely mistaken. It only gets 20-22 empty but MPG does not matter when your running on free waste vegetable oil and it should still run low 8s in the 1/8th on veg. We will find out soon exactly what it will run Wagon this

Im glad I dont live near you folks towing with passenger cars. Those vehicles are clearly not designed for towing boats and makes you dangerous to other people on the road.

Welcome to the forum. Nice second post. Hopefully you will not use your third post to troll for drama.

Anyhow keep in mind that the Mustang and Audi have oversized brakes and sway bars. I'd be willing to bet that with the same light loads we towed that the stopping distances would be shorter than a truck.

That said, I've owned numerous boats from 15 feet to 42 feet and towed them all with everything from a passenger car to a F450. In every case the safety of me and my passengers was paramount and never at risk.

I am with Stitch........I have a 1 ton with several boats and tow with my Lincoln (within factory rating). By the way, I get 7 more miles per gallon with the Lincoln towing the same boat as compared to my 1 ton.Click image for larger version.
