    Parker 300 Enduro

Yes not technical but I am posting anyway. Yesterday was the race and Joe Abellera/Brian Murphy won Ist in Div III (2.0 Merc) and 1st Overall. We (me and JJ Gibbs) won 3rd in Div III and 4th Overall. The outboards ruled!! Alan Stoker was 2nd in Div and 2nd Overall.

The TECHNICAL point I want to make is that a lot has to be said for prep work for a motor to last 4 1/2 hours at full throttle. Check and check and check again. Then check it two more times. John Gibbs built our motor. Before the start of the race he had us put duct tape around the base of the cowling/pan to solve a water intrusion problem. That tape was left on for the whole race. The cowel was never pulled during the two mandatory pit stops to check the motor. Call it stupid or call it confident. I say confident and I never worried about a motor problem. We were able to spend more time checking everything else, driver switch coaching and stratogy discussions. We finished with a still perfect motor. Thanks to John and JJ Gibbs, Gibbs Propeller of Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Thanks also to Jay Smith Racing engines for the great work he does and the fast turnaround for both the 1st place winner Joe/Brian and us.

    I had a blast!!!!!!!

    Here you go

I am at about 3:25, scarey moment for Boat #35. The wind coming off that point was just right to make me take off like an airplane. Caught me the first time even though JJ told me to look for it.....glad he did. John Gibbs told us at the start that it was gonna be there!!!!

Finished the race, 4 hrs of full throttle racing. 3rd in our Division (III) and 4th place Overall. 40 boats started 17 finished. This is my third year doing this race and the first time finished. What an awesome time. Thanks so much to my friends and family for coming out and supporting us. Heartfilled thanks to JJ and John Gibbs.

Franky, saw the video - WOW! The wind on that end of the course did catch you if you were still trimmed for the front straight leg through the corner (like I was). Great job on the 3rd/4th place finish! This race is so much fun...everyone should come do it at least once!

We were lucky to finish this year, with the mid about to fall off at the end. I can't believe I ran the fastest lap of the race on the last lap with it like that! Oh well, I guess 1 turn on a 3/8 PH stud was enough to get me on the trailer!

That was lucky...check out these pics...

The first pic is the other side of the exhaust adapter. Notice the upper motor mount bolt is GONE. We found it on top of the swivel bracket, broke off about 4 threads down from the shank. You can also see the one powerhead stud that still had a nut on it. The one in front of it is gone too. You can see the rear bolt is pulled out of the can.

On the other side, you can see the stud that was pulled out of the powerhead, and the fact that the one behind it is missing. The upper motor mount bolt is loose!

At the lower motor mount, notice that the lower snap ring is gone and the lower mount is already down at the bottom of the splines on the swivel pin. We had already loosened the lower unit nuts at this point.

In the last pic, you can see how badly the bolt holes in the top of the can are wallowed out from all the loose motion. We removed that last powerhead stud nut on the port side and the mid dropped onto the ground!
