I think I can see the separate throttle and shifter slots on the stbd side motor on #105 in Danny's pic ... that would make them 61's like 194268 says.

That was the first 6 Hour Race in Kissimmee, Fl. 1960. Just about everybody ran Speedmasters or Sportmasters. Olegator can fill in the blanks. That was his neck of the woods.

I was doing some research of old newspaper clippings and came across mention of a St John's River Marathon of 300 miles in the May of 1960 issue of the Portsmouth New Hampshire Herald. It says that a 18 year old high school senior by the name of Jim Hunt won the event with a 14ft Aluminum utility boat with a 45hp motor in a time of 6 hours 45 minutes averaging over 40mph... The article goes on to say that the high schooler hopes to make
a career in the marine industry after graduation from school.

[QUOTE=Powercat;2061848]Here is another photo shot of that group of cats..
The nose of the boat in the foreground I believe is a
Raveau Cat to add to the list..
Perhaps this one. We need to get Bobby Walwork onboard here

How common were the tunnel tabs back then?

I'd like to hear about how many used tabs, too.
The Raveau clearly has throttle and shift, so its motors have to be 61's.

Look at how deep the engines were on the Raveau cat..... By '63 or '64 we were running 5" higher with some form of surfacing prop.

The engines with shift had a different mid housing I am pretty sure..They had a plate covering the powerhead bolts..None of the racers I knew ran shifters..You needed the DR for the Speedmasters and Sportmasters. The Raveau cat never ran stock units..You are seeing the cable slot, and the black plastic end of the cable, at WOT..The control boxes are DR..
