Adhesive question
Hi, My seat pedestals keep pulling out from the floor. What I intend to do is mount the pedestal to a one foot square piece of 3/4 inch plywood with recessed carriage bolts from the from the bottom of the plywood up. I have cut the carpet out so the plywood sits on the floor and i'm going to lag that down to the floor with 9 lag bolts. I was going to apply glass resin to the floor and plywood before I put the wood down but now I thinking
maybe something like liquid nails subfloor adhesive might be better because of the uneven surfaces. What do you think? Any other ideas?
Thanks Jon <!-- / message -->

Liquid Nails would not be a good choice. Epoxy resin, thickened with cabosil for the adhesive, then glass over the whole thing.

Do it like transomstand says and you can lift the whole boat by the seat bases. Just use what the boat was built with. Glass and resin/putty.

Why not mount them to 1/4'' alum instead of 3/4'' wood?

another idea is to mount the nuts [don't remember the name] on the underside and bolt your seats to the nuts.LiquiFly did his this way and also glassed them in place. No,to liquidnails, use 3M5200,if you must!
why ask me ?

Is it Nutserts you are talking about? www.mcmastercarr.com has alot of fastners to choose from. If he uses alum he can tap it for the threads. But if floor is rotted he'll have to secure to the stringers if they are OK.

I have used the Garelick stanless toggle bolts when I cant access the backside. They work great.

My Aboat seats are mounted into a 1/4" glassed in aluminum plate. If I was going to use plywood, I would perforate it with 1/2" OC holes across it and pour it with West Systems Epoxy to make a laminate out of it.
I did this with a constantly delaminating SMC hull on my Yamaha GP1200 wave jumper and ended up with an indestructable hull.

Thanks for all the ideas!! I saw those toggle bolts online. The only problem is there is very little
clearance between the floor and the hull especiallly on the outer bolts. I don't think there is
enough depth to insert them. I have no other access below the floor. I realize the best thing to
do would be to glass the whole piece in but I only cut out a piece of carpet the size of the
wood I am putting in. The rest of the carpet and floor is in good shape and i don't have the
time or money to redo the whole thing. Also the driver seat is fine its just the passenger seat.
I think i'm going to use 5200 as a bedding and and lag the piece down for now. At some point
down the road I will rebuild the floor and install some nice mounting blocks at that time. I know
what I'm doing is somewhat of a band aid solution but times are tough right now and I just want
to use my boat.
Thanks for all the replies Jon
