No. You just need to be carefull and take your time learning how to drive them.
They can be trickey.

I take it without the rudder its less responsive when turning.

For steering they are mostly useless, minimal for steering. They will help a boat a little from a spin out.

Went out today without rudder ,feel boat drift some when turning . acts like a PWC when lettin off gas. Hit a rock with intake fins dont know what would have happened if it were on.I'm sure not good.
