The #012288 1 is behind the advance arm on the block near the split of the block. The #b314599 is the freeze plug on the top of the block near the rear between the heads i'm not sure how 2 check the info on my motor besides i know it's a 1988 model 200 hp mercury i'm not really sure if it's a 2.4l or a 2.5l powerhead if anyone can help i would very much appreciate it thanks.

If it truly is a 1988, then it's a 2.4L 'cause 2.5L didn't come out 'till 1993

If I'm thinking right, you can see the transfer port bulges on the outside of the 2.4's and not the 2.5's
But yea, if its an '88, it is a 2.4.
Believe it or not, I had a '98 2.4.......(according to the numbers on the split line)Last edited by WATERWINGS; 08-24-2010 at 05:31 PM.
