This same question came up recently over at Performance boats. No one has been able to find a marine mechanical pump. Most are either running and automotive pump or switching to electric.

The only problem with automotive pumps they mount fuel lines down on the bottom and the weep hole will drain to the bilge. On Olds marine pumps the lines are on top. Are electric pumps as safe as mechanical pumps in a boat?

I agree. Automotive pumps are not the best solution especially with an enclosed engine compartment. There are marine certified electric pumps.

Carter has 2 electric pumps a P4070 and a P4389. The P4389 has a USCG sticker the other don't other than that I can't find any thing diffirent on the 2 except 30 bucks. I just really didn't want to redo my fuel system and wire in an electric pump.
