Thank you.
Where exactly is this hole?

Have any pics where you drilled the holes?I have the ecu/flywheel mod done already.I tend to feel this motor could us a bit more air. When running higher pitch props at anything above sea level it seams to soot the prop up a bit on long runs.Mines a 2006 standard opti,I think the xs uses aa different intake/cowl to induct the air.

I removed completely the air box from the engine and tested my boat today and i was happy with the results.
I gained more than a mile per hour at wot and the acceleration was better.
Plus the engine's sound (music not noise as some say) was more aggressive.
Do you think that if i drill a 120 mm hole on the air box it would be better than not to use it at'all ?

These things are setup so lean at the factory for emissions, what is the chance of more air without extra fuel causing it to go too lean?

I believe they are lean stock as well..mine seems fat after the ecu/flywheel mod though.

I think that the engine has more fuel from the ecu upgrade so that's why the removal of the air box helped.
I'll try drilling the air box and test again.
Does anyone know if this could damage the engine?

From the increasing performance point of view, Im an old hotrodder, first thing we all did was to free up the air intake. Boats, cars, or bikes. I will try and post a pic later this pm..It's just a 3" hole directly over the intake hole. I have changed the plugs on both my opti's since drillin the intake. They looked exactly the same as before the hole. Slightly black and sooty, but fairly dry...Dont read as lean to me... I run my iridium plugs for 300 hrs. before replacing. They look like they could go for more, but I change em anyhoo. At 20 bucks a peice, they should last the life of the engine....

Has anyone tried running a 300xs or 250xs without the hood or airbox for one run to see if they are restricting the RPMs? I was looking at the hood of my 250xs this weekend and I thought that the 2 openings in hood looked small. I might try it this weekend and see what happens.

I had a 225Pro XS that I did the ECU and Fly wheel mods too. Took my a couple tries to get the ECU right (had to send it back twice) and in the end really saw no difference in power. Maybe 1 mph with the same wheel turning it about the same rpm.
Oddly one of the first times I had the ECU back, the RPM on the analog tach was 3 or 400 rpm more than the simultaneous smartcraft rpm. So I guess the ECU mod does increase rpm.
Was not worth it to me, but I guess a 24 checkmate is a relatively heavy boat. I was hoping for performance comparable to the same hull with a 250XS since thats what the reflash was supposed to be, but that did not happen. Not the vendors fault, just giving others my results.
If I did it again I'd should have spent the money on more setback and better steering/props.Checkmate 2400, Opti Pro XS powered

I went for fishing yesterday but i didn't manage to test the performance because the sea was very rough.
This weekend i will try again and i'll post the results .

Where did you drill the hole, and what size did you go with
