pump noise..............could it fool ya?
the pity party is over and i been messing around with the boat.gonna spin wrench's and see whats up.My new power seemed to be taking a quick toll on my pump and now the pump is full of noise at low idle and the bearing is rumbling loud. oil pressure has not changed and boat fires right up.
rolling along at 4000 rpms i thought i heard a noise and felt something going wrong so i let off. my passengers said whats up? i told them i thought i heard something. i slowly stepped up to 1500 rpms and it sounded like a wrist pin was letting go and i expected it to grenade pretty quick cause ive been there done that
we idled back and at the last i revved it and sure enough, big knock.
im gonna pull the engine, open and inspect, take pump apart, new bearings and whatever blah, re-assemble.
luckily im dumb enough to continue the stupidity.

Have you stared the motor with the pump disconnected? It could be a pump or u-joint issue and nothing at all wrong with the motor.

Did you spin the pump by hand? When the front bearing in mine went out it made a horrible noise even when turning it by hand.

the bearing rumble constantly at idle but turns very free by hand

I just replaced a motor in my boat and ran all day sat with it sounding good and never real got on it... but then today I started hearing some rattling noise and after inspecting it closer the noise is coming from the bell housing so either the u joints went south even though we inspected them after trowing everything back together or the pump bearing is fried but it turned freely buy hand and seemed to be solid. I hate having that bellhousing on there......now I have to disconect ever thing, pull the motor out and then pull the bell housing off to inspect further....this winter that 3 point mount is going in the trash
