How can I tell what gear ratio I have? Prop turns 1/2 turn per full turn of flywheel
I am trying to figure out what gear ratio I have on my 2001 Mercury 250 EFI. When I turn the flywheel once by hand a full turn the prop turns about half a turn. Is this the correct ratio for a typical 2001 250 EFI? What ratio is this?
Thanks guys!!!

You need to mark it and be very precise with your turns. "about half a turn" is "about" a 2:1 gear ratio.
Multiple turns doing the math will give you a more accurate count.Membership upgrade options: http://www.screamandfly.com/payments.php

Thanks guys...Makes sense, that's what I figured but it seemed too simple
...I just did a little searching and found that if you turn the flywheel a bunch of times then divide the number of flywheel turns by the number of times the prop turns you can also figure it out. I turned the flywheel 6 times and the prop turned just under 3.5 times...so it looks like it is a 1.75...
Is 1.75 what this motor would normally come with???
Thanks again.
