Question Which makes more power 300x or 300xs

Curious as to what the general opinion is on these 2 motors, obviously one being an EFI @ 3.0L and the other a DFI @ 3.2L. I'm not interested in fuel economy numbers, just the bottom line...... HP & Torque.

First off you'd think 3.2 L is better than 3.0 L, but as we all know that's not always the case. What do you know or think...............

300x has more HP. They started in 2001 at 315-320 and the 2005 being the last and best year I have seen a few dyno runs on ones that have been balanced put out 353hp. THe 300xs i heard is comin in around 310 stock. Eric Simon says that if he gets a good one to start with he can make 300x power with his mods. The 300xs is definitely a torque monster.

Hey Todd..........I guess you'd know a little something about this............

I've always been curious about these two motors and how they stacked up against each other........

I found it quite unusual that the 225, 250 and 300XS & ProXS all use the same throttle plate. That alone would seem like a very restrictive and limited intake system and maybe that's where Eric's or Shaun's bigger throttle body come into play.

    Thx,

Yeah the bigger throttle kits are a pretty cool piece. Wayne Taylor used to say the throttle plate only has to be as large as one reed cages since they are the restriction.

Your right about that, like a funnel effect.........it won't come out as fast as it went in.....

Wonder if anybody has been playing with reed cages trying to get a little more past them

I asked Eric that last week. He said that the 5 pettle are about as big as you can go without having them fall apart and end up blowing the powerhead.

I think I read in one of Shaun's posts that he machines the reed cages and uses slightly larger reeds than the 300X in the motors he builds along with his big bore throttle body.

    Dave,

I planned on talking to Shaun a little to see what his take on this is as well. I know he's played around with the 300x intake system a little and I'd like to pick his brain on what he's tried that's worked and not worked.

By the way; Who's watching the reactor...........get back to work.............

I have a few questions for him as well. I'm still undecided on a winter project or not. We'll see how I like the MAD/Wolf motor once I get it to run right. I'd really like to do a 3.2 300X stroker.

That reactor is somebody elses baby now. Too many hours, shift work and stress for me. I'm a Telecom tech here now. 5 days a week and steady daylight.

We're both of those motors "BONE STOCK"...... How did the torque band related between the two.....
