    looper timing question

having problems timing v6 225 , fresh motor just rebuilt , new pp and new stator. trying to set total advance at 16* and it will only get up to around 12-13 at 6000 rpm in gear in the water. the advance will not go any farther its not even touching the screw limiter the pointer is right at top dead center on number 1 the base just cant physically go any farther

    same with 2 different lights
carbs are going to wot and the linkage arms arent limiting the advance

    any ideas

Sounds like you have a flywheel or trigger problem assuming you have the correct timer pack combo

ok i checked on it today and fly wheel looks to be in good shape , magnets are all stuck good and are strong, none have moved. checked tdc and its dead on on #1 timer base is a 584586 and it should be good with the pp (586662) those same numbers were running together before a upper bearing melted everything.

i found out today that the timing arm is hitting the forward stator bolt tower preventing it from going farther

could ngk plugs be making it act funny

or would you lean towards timer

    im working on another flywheel

anyone got a timer for sale need a 584586 or anything compatable

What year is your motor? I have a 95 Evinrude Limited Edition 200hp PM me your number or I can PM you mine.
In my 96 225 Johnson if I didn't run the Champion plugs it wouldn't run worth a darn and acted all funny. Not saying that is your problem but it could be.

You need to look at the ctr hub not the outer magnets. The timer should not need to move any further

I would also put timing marks for all 6 cylinders to check them. You are checking with the engine running at 5k under load correct?

took it out this morning and it worked just like it was supposed to timied it at 16* i dont know what i was doing wrong but today it worked perfect only thing i did diff. was disconnect the quickstart wire, after it was warm

its was a little hard to get started it will hit on one and disengage the starter over and over then all of the sudden be fine fire up and run
