Power Steering turns left, but very hard to turn right?? Mercruiser
Power Steering turns left, but very hard to turn right?? (at slow speeds, or not moving)
I have the stock cable steering running into the mercruiser power steering unit.
Installed a new cable, much better.
Changed the valve on the power steering pump.
Still, no luck.
Any idea's??<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

is the cable routed with free play to move and actually operate the valve properly!

Same answer as already posted on the other site, it is the valve(steering unit).

It is a power steering rack ballancing issue. The older ones are adjustable, the newer ones you can't adjust. Does it want to turn by itself and are you constantly correcting it? Either way it sounds like the rack needs to be replaced.

NOT the rack(bben there, tried that), it is the Brazil vave(or Saginaw valve) on the transom.

as Donmac stated it sounds like the cable routing. The cable it self has to be able to move freely. The valve is actually activated by the whole cable moving on the actuator, then the core of the cable moves the drive. It only move about 1/2" each way. Have some one turn the wheel while you look at the cable movement on the actuator

If you got a book and followed the trouble shooting directions which are straight forward, you would be able to figure it out. It sounds like the control valve in the power steering rack. disconnect the cable as it exits the rack (clevis pin) hook up a power steering pressure tester between the pump and the rack. Manually pull and push the cable where it goes into the rack and note the results, the pressure should spike as you do it, If it doesn't for pulling but does for pushing, or vice verse then it is the control valve inside of the steering rack and the assembly needs to be replaced as a whole unit. Thanks for all the replies, sounds like it is the power steering rack.
Will let you know once I've replaced that to see if that is it.
Thanks again.
P.S. Anyone in Ontario Canada know who might have a used one??
