Heres a pic, a salted out 94 Honda 4 stroke, 5 HP, OB, A guy here, gave me. Honda wanted $900 to fix!
He never flushed it out, and it REALLY TOOK OUT the ALUMINUM head ! And he said it ran fine, but was GUSHING WATER, out the bottom cowling! Look at the piX. Had good compression, but the water passage to the Overhead valve head, had a small trickle leak. It ATE THAT SOB UP!
Look at the middle, LAST PIC..see the duck tape over the plug hole? Just to the left, is the damage. I got the die grinder out, dug out all the useless crap, and I could get into the 2 water passages!
I looked it over, said "what the heck", and I stuffed JB "Water Weld Putty" in there, and let it run after curing for ONE HOUR, under load, in a tank!.
RUNS FINE , and on a 12 foot rowboat mine...
5hp Honda OB, free...
Owner says ya want it?
Honda wants $900 to fix..
$4 bucks in 'Miracle putty?....and works? PRICELESS!
" Greg..why are the pix posted coming out backwards. reverse order ? No biggie, read 3 too 1 instead..

This company sells double lipped seals:

My 20 year old trailer has these hubs. The only time I repack is when I do the brakes. Zero bearing failures.
I have also gone from the interstate direct to the launch with hot hubs with no water intrusion.

Seals and new expensive hubs..(I only go one block to the launch), is not the answer for me. Like stated.."I rebuilt the trailer carriage/new springs, etc, but used the old axle. there is pitting on the surface, fixed it and smoothed best I could, but obviously still getting salt water to the inner bearing. So I know where the problem is, and the solution. Speedi-Sleeve shaft repair kits. Heard much cheaper at NAPA too, like $25 a side

Bearing Buddy makes a sleeve/o-ring inner seal setup, seems to me they were about 12 bucks a side.

Its such a simple fix, as "metalrizing" with a gun, tossing in a lathe, is a lot of work, and any other "fix-it , won't last. And the SKF sleeves, are the answer, for trashed seal surface. And a heck of a lot cheaper than a new axle! And I have always had inner bearing trailer axle failure, never the outer. Heres another link the SKF, for those who did not click the "closer look"...so damn simple!

Just got the other wheel off, not bad, but not smooth either. Inner bearing again, so I'll slap new in, and then, over winter, new bearings, and the SKF sleeves.
While I'm thinking about it, does anyone remember back in the 70's, think "Lubri-plate"..??...came in a tube, and the BEST water proof grease EVER made! As a kid, an old school hot boater told me, "use this, but don't get any on yer hands, as IT DOES NOT WASH OFF...just wears off, when ya grow new SKIN!. Crap was like super Glue!. Probably outlawed, freaking EPA idiots, save the world.

Pretty sure its the same got it from the shop I started my apprenticship at in 75, wound up in my tool box when the shop closed, its in a jar now tube long gone. It is not like the new grease even after so many years it doesn't separate ( liquid coming to surface ).
