No offense, but apparently you and others haven't been paying attention
Here is one example. Near lane - Mirage with a 250HO. Far lane - Allison comp with a 280/260 electronics. FYI this boat/motor won lake racer at Blarneys last year. Racing and beating 260's and 280's is getting boring.

A few years ago we were getting laughed at. Now, they are making excuses for losing. Both boats are about the same weight for racing.
Last time I checked, no one was running a big litre Merc or Yam. ETEC is new and current. 2.5's are not. They are a great and legendary motor, but we have been seeing the same thing for many years now. I understand many are skeptical, but if you take an honest look at what these boats are doing at Blarney's and other races around the country, you can't help but be impressed. Again, 2009 Blarneys Lake Racer champion.

Don't get me wrong. I love the idea of another motor that can be used in a performance application and the Etec's are obviously strong motors but I just don't think its a fair fight when the motor sports 36% more cubes.
I could probably get interested in them if they had a better looking cowling. I'd love to see Bombardier build a real race model with a good looking mid and cowl.Erik Kiser

It's too big. It doesn't count. Not fair.
That's pretty cool. Some funny replies too. As the guy with the bloody nose would say, " HEY,, it's not a fair fight. You're bigger than I am" ????????????? Tough break kid. Show up with your big brother next time.

I like all outboards, and the new E-Tecs are doing real well... I still think that in a serious setting it's gonna have a tough time against the a 2.5 Merc on a light set-up... All the over rev of the Mercs without them falling on their face is tough to beat on a short course - JMO... Nice boat and motor se-up for sure, it's fast and I'll bet the mannors and use friendliness is perfect...

FlowMaxx is right. The naysayers have never seen one run in person. No, it's not a fair comparison in terms of displacement, but the simple fact is that it is an awesome performer in a time when all hope has pretty much been lost. More importantly, it's something different. I have a Merc on my boat right now, but I am not just a Merc fan. I'm an everything fan, and I like to see variety. The 2.5s are like '69 Camaros - everybody has one.
Plus, I don't care what anybody says, you just plain can't beat the sound of an OMC. Wouldn't matter if it went down the course at 42 mph, it would still be the neatest thing out there.
By the way, a certain Merc employee on here was a disbeliever of the "rumors" a few years back. Then the E-Tec won Rouen and he never had anything more to say about it as I recall.Ron V
