    260 OS hard starting

    hey guys,
When we put the skater in the water first, it starts fine. Run around for awhile and it's hard starting unless I lift the mid out of the water. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    jd

I have had several hard to start motors after they are hot and I found several issues that have caused the problem.. If you have a fuel pressure gauge IN LINE and you kill the fuel pump and the pressure does NOT start going down quickly the orfice tee is plugged. If this is the case and you have a leaking injector the pressure remaining in the fuel rail will escape through that leaker and flood that bore making it hard to start.Do NOT drill out the orfice soak it in carb cleaner and blow debree out, ( If you drill it the fuel returning down the return line will rob the fuel rail of sinventory on the top side during peak demands ) Also you might try seperating the yellow with the black tracer from the yellow and the red tracer at the nylon junction block at the split case of the engine. This is the choke circuit and sometimes they will enrichen when its not needed and make it hard to start. Also if you trying to open the butter fly while cranking this will cause issues. Leave the butter fly SHUT until it fires and idles a few seconds..Also make sure the air barb that feeds the regulator as well as the ECU are clear..

    Good luck,
    Jay

    hi Jay,
    Thanks for the response.
i will check the T for debris.
I have cracked the butterfly during starting in gear.
I should start it in neutral first, let it idle a bit, then shut down, shift it into gear and restart?
I will check this out during the week.
Thanks a ton for your great info. If I keep this thing, you'll be getting it this winter

I would start the motor in neutral, let it idle a second , kill , shift into desired gear then refire ..

    Works for me..

if this engine originally came with an analog ecu and you switched it to digital one then do as jay said, get rid of the enrichen circuit wire from the solenoid and move it to the block next to the hot horn terminal.
the other thing is the offshore exhaust housing. If its buried in the water it will snuff the exhaust. drill out the 2 fake relief holes at the top it will start much better
