Need help for replacing the floor and main stringer the RIGHT way

I am about to order a bunch of fiberglass cloth, I have a lot of resin... but I remember seeing something about using something like duraglass to set the main stringer in, then glassing OVER the stringer... something like that. Also, I've read about using fiberglass mat first, then fiberglass cloth. Is there a basic FAQ for this stuff? I've searched, but all the threads that are referenced no longer link at all, I think the forum upgrade borked all the thread numbers.

I have a 78 Sleekcraft.... it does NOT have a core (awesome!!!), but it does have one stringer, that might provide some support, but I think it basically supports the floor. Either way, I'd like to do it the right way the first time.

I'm guessing the links are only temp. dead. Greg (scream and fly) is doing massive updates to the site. I'm sure they will be back up and working in no time at all.

The stringer does give support to the hull.Your stringer should be set with a mix of resin an micro balloons. Mircro ballons are small fiberglass spheres an when mixed it makes like a puddy. When you add the m e k (hardner) you dont want it to dry to quick. If it does it will lose strength. After you set the stringer now you cover stringer with matting.Take a scrap piece of plywood lay our cut matting on it.Soak the matting with resin with a paint brush. Then lay the matting on stringer an work the air bubbles out with the paint brush wet with resin. After stringer is covered with the matting repeat same for the fiberglass cloth.you should use 12 ounce cloth or woven. Will W/B Soon

Tommy welcome to the board and not to be rude but i think you will find this site a little more advanced on using material's then you think because there are some very experienced people on this site who do nothing but boats for a living and when you say woven are you talking about woven roving ? Tommy once again welcome to the dark side .

Cash68 As far as your floor !You want to leave a inch an one quarter gap between floor an hull.Coat the underside of floor with resin an let cure before you install it.After you install the floor you will have your gap between floor an hull. Cut about one foot strips of matting an cloth.Soak the matting with resin lay the cloth on top of matting an soak with resin. Then take the matting an cloth an lay it from the hull to the top of the floor to cover gap.Do that around the perimeter of the boat an coat the top side of floor with resin. please reply. Dave

Cash is there any chance of showing any pics of the stringer and flooring just to give us all a general idea of what you are working with and have you started to tear things out yet ?
