I'm not going to touch that one. I'll let some of the Older year merc Guru's kick in.

I personally use NADA as a base and then determine several things. Salt water/fresh water, overall condition, What needs to be done & cost of repair etc. vs parting out.

Hard to tell from the picture. Is that a 3 or 4 cyl?? And where did you get that serial nuber from, Engine or Mounting bracket?

3 cyc just the head and mid is all we got

I'm a little confused now. 1978/1983 80HP were 4 cyls which corresponds with the serial number you posted 5481216.

1987/1989 80 HP were 3 cyls but that serial number doesn't jive. And it's definately not a 85 or 90.

I'm beginning to believe it is a 1979 70 HP with beginning S/N 5128280
