    prop suggestion to start

    does anyone have a suggestion to prop a 1990 2 stroke 15 hp as a kicker motor on a 2072 mod v, with a 115 on it?

my guess is the boat weighs about 1300-1400 rigged...

the prop I got it with is spun...so i dont have a base to move to, to make a choice myself.

If the kicker is a standard 15 hp...

...then I'd suggest something with 3 blades and about 2 inches less pitch than the stock prop. If its a motor marketed specifically as a kicker or auxilary engine for a large boat, then stick with the stock pitch that it came with. In some cases- like on the small Mercs, the stock props are all cupped. if the motor doesn't have much thrust in reverse, then you can sometimes improve this by filing off the cup on the trailing edge for a bit more bite in reverse.

    Depends on the brand

Many of the high thrust motors are completely different from the standard ones- different gearing, prop sizes, etc. So if you have a standard motor the props from the high thrust ones won't work. Best bet is to find a prop chart for your motor and take a look at whats available.

Just get the pitch on the prop you now have...

...and subtract 2 inches if its a plain- non high thrust motor. If it is a high thrust kicker motor, then run the same pitch. The pitch is usually stamped on the prop.

Id add some cupping to what you got now as a start,if it is no good then cut the pitch down a size ,that is the cheapest option .
If you still want more you can go to the Solas Stainless props and apply the same theory probably starting from a smaller base ,adding cupping then if need be subtracting pitch Now that sound as clear as mud
