Cut to the chase me. Snapper "Comet" Rider bought off a friend> Used 1986 first house, lots grass. It was used but he needed a bigger deck mower and bought a bigger house/lot too. 5HP. (year unknown) but parts STILL available and only needed was upgrade to Solid State spark. Drive disc every few years, and FINALLY broke the blade drive belt and STILL will go through foot tall grass, first gear. Damn thing will out live me!

If you're cutting with that, you should be trimming with one of these.Click image for larger version.

    5 dollar score.
Looked too formidable to pass up.
Fresh fuel with a little dose of berryman's b12, she's running fine. Got lucky.
2 stroke smokey goodness, it "SOUNDS" like an honest 3 hp!
Frowned upon for purchase." What do you need that for? " crap.
    Makes me smile, though!

I used to have a Snapper. And the only problem I have had out of Briggs is after 21 years they stop making replacement parts for them.

So I bought a Ferris with independent suspension, 61" cut and an EFI Briggs 28hp. Even has a dry sump oil system. 12 mph top speed.

It's all junk these days. My son brought home a couple of Honda push lawn mowers (both pretty close to the same thing). He said guy at work was going to throw out. The guy cut the handles on them,(welded up the handle) why I don't know. Said they wouldn't run. Pulled the carb off, not much to it. Took it apart cleaned it up with carb cleaner runs ok. But the carb has no adjustment on it only a jet. No low speed adjustment no high speed adjustment just the jet. The throttle cable on the handle does ****, nada, nothing. Gone are the days of tuning. Deck is even plastic.
